Are you chasing your dream?
Are you chasing your dream? I questioned this myself on the day I stumbled upon Paulo Coelho's "The Alchemist". Little did I know that this book would become a transformative force in my life.
Are you chasing your dream? I questioned this myself on the day I stumbled upon Paulo Coelho's "The Alchemist". Little did I know that this book would become a transformative force in my life, teaching me the profound significance of dreaming and relentlessly pursuing those dreams.

As I delved into the pages of this novel, I found myself not just as a reader but an active participant experiencing a metamorphosis that compels me to chase my dreams.
Today’s issue is a little different than the previous ones because this one is filled with emotions and personal reflections.
Discovering Personal Legend
In the heart of "The Alchemist" lies the concept of the Personal Legend – an individual's unique calling or purpose in life. Coelho's eloquent portrayal of this idea serves as a catalyst for readers to contemplate their destinies.
For me, the pages acted as a mirror reflecting my deepest desires and nudged me to acknowledge and pursue my personal legend.
Santiago's Journey and Its Impact
Santiago, the protagonist, embarks on a journey that transcends geographical boundaries. His quest for a hidden treasure mirrors the universal pursuit of dreams. The resonance of Santiago's character with my own life experiences unveils the universality of human aspirations and the courage required to chase them.
And if you think deeply, our dreams are nothing but buried hidden treasures in the vastness of our souls, which need to be dug out to fulfill the purpose of our lives.
Facing Personal Hardships
As Santiago encounters numerous challenges, the novel becomes a poignant reminder that hardships are an intrinsic part of any meaningful journey.
A personal reflection I would like to share is that, everyone is facing or has faced hardships in life of varying intensities, so if we are facing some hardship god is not against us but instead is pulling us towards a better shade of life.
Transformative Power of Faith
Santiago's unyielding faith in his journey, despite uncertainties, instills a sense of unwavering determination. This theme resonates deeply, prompting introspection on our journey.
The novel becomes a testament to the transformative power of faith, urging the reader to believe in their dreams even in the face of uncertainty.
And faith is the biggest source of our strength, we often forget this.
The Language of the World
"The Alchemist" introduces the concept of the 'Language of the World'—a universal language that transcends linguistic barriers.
This notion extends beyond the pages of the novel, encouraging a broader perspective on communication. The realization that everyone and everything communicates in a shared language becomes a tool for forging meaningful connections in our own lives.
The aptest example would be how parents perfectly understand the needs of toddlers when their language seems nothing but gibberish.
Pursuit of Dreams Over Materialism
Coelho contrasts the pursuit of dreams with the allure of material success. Santiago's rejection of material wealth in favor of his personal legend prompts reflection on the true essence of success.
This stark dichotomy prompts a shift in our own priorities, fostering a deeper connection with personal aspirations over societal expectations.
People think someone crazy who does something other than normalized standards, but at least they are living life on their terms. I am happy to be called that crazy.
Overcoming Fear of Failure
Santiago's initial fear of failure mirrors a universal human apprehension. Yet, his journey showcases that failure is not an endpoint but a stepping stone to success.
The novel serves as a reminder that facing and overcoming fears is an integral part of the journey toward realizing our dreams.
Everyone has some fear, and it would be rubbish to say that I don’t have fear, because in reality having fear is what makes you take action.
Lessons on Patience and Timing
Time is a recurring motif in "The Alchemist." Santiago's journey emphasizes the significance of patience and the perfect timing of life's events.
This realization prompted a shift in my perspective, fostering a newfound patience that allows for a more profound appreciation of life's unfolding journey.
Applying "Maktub" in Daily Life
The term "Maktub," meaning 'it is written,' encapsulates the idea that destiny unfolds as it should. Integrating this concept into daily life becomes a profound shift in perspective.
The acknowledgment that certain events are beyond our control allows for a more serene acceptance of life's unfolding narrative. Honestly, you cannot control everything around you, but you can control what’s within.
Closing Thoughts
I could have gone on writing in length about the numerous lessons the novel shares, but I want to encourage you to give the novel one read, and I can promise that it will teach you something about yourself.
In conclusion, "The Alchemist" is more than a literary masterpiece; it is a guide that beckons readers to embark on their own journeys of self-discovery.
I remember this, when for the first time I completed reading this gem, I was not merely a reader but a dreamer and was fueled by the belief that my Personal Legend awaited me.
If you have stuck around till the end of this, I really appreciate it. I re-read the book when I reflected on my thoughts while writing this issue, and I hope this one resonated with you.
Catch you in the next one, meanwhile, do me a favor, stay curious and happy!
I am Leaving,
